Descendants of Daniel Poore

Generation No. 1

1. DANIEL1 POORE (Source: James Harris Creighton, Dewey, AZ: email: Eaglepipe1945@aol.com, "Eastwind Westwind", The Legacy of John Poore. The Family Poore, Poor, Poer and Powers, Prehistory to the Present., (Unpublished).) was born Abt. 1590 in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. He married UNKNOWN Bef. 1615.

Notes for D
ANIEL POORE:
Although we have no factual data to confirm it, Daniel Poore may have been the father of John, Nicholas, Alice, Samuel, Daniel and Thomas Poore. Nicholas is often found as Nickolas in various accounts.

There is a lack of birth, marriage and death records for Daniel Poore. Family tradition states that he was born at (or near) Salisbury, Wiltshire in 1590. The Poore estates at Amesbury and Durrington represented the center of operations for this large family. By 1590, the Poores had land holdings all along the River Avon and east into the Andover and Wallops area of Hampshire. Within the city of Salisbury, the Poores occupied properties at St. Martins Parish and Edmunds Church district. These parishes were also the urban locations for many of the related Hampshire families, including Gore, Reade, Singer, Noyes and Parker.

Two couples have been isolated who were married in the right time frame and in the right geographical area to have been Daniel's parents.

Both married in Salisbury were: Thomas Poore and Alice Yearp, married at Edmunds Church on May 2, 1581.
John Poore and Dorothy Reade, married at St. Martins Parish on October 19, 1584.

All of Daniel's children were reported born at Trowbridge, Wiltshire, but it is probable that he maintained close family ties with the Salisbury, Amesbury and Hampshire Poores. It appears that Daniel's family was located back within the Poore localities of eastern Wiltshire or western Hampshire when the migrations to Massachusetts began in the 1630's.

Children of D
ANIEL POORE and UNKNOWN are:
2. i.   JOHN2 POORE, b. 1615, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England; d. Abt. 21 Nov 1684, Between Andover and West Rowley, MA.
ii.   NICHOLAS POORE, b. 1616, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England.
  Notes for NICHOLAS POORE:
Source: James H. Creighton, Author of Eastwind Westwind, "The Legacy of John Poore. The family Poore, Poor, Poer and Powers, Prehistory to the Present".
Little is known about Nicholas except that he resided in Lynn, MA in 1637-38. No records have been found to absolutely place him as a sibling of John, Alice, Samuel and Daniel. James Savage found the Essex County court records referring to Nickolas (Nicholas) Poore and his main contact was a family named "Lewis". Perhaps the Lewis family of Lynn descended from a marriage between Nicholas and a past member of the Lewis family.

3. iii.   ALICE POORE, b. 02 Jun 1618, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England; d. 01 Dec 1680, Newbury, Essex, MA.
4. iv.   SAMUEL POORE, b. 1620, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England; d. 31 Dec 1683, Newbury, Essex, MA.
5. v.   DANIEL POORE, b. 1624, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England; d. 08 Jun 1690, Andover, MA.
vi.   THOMAS POORE, b. Abt. 1626, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England.
  Notes for THOMAS POORE:
The elusive Thomas Poore is mentioned by both Alfred Poore and James Savage. He appears to have settled with his brother,
Daniel, in Andover, MA, where a Thomas Poore died in 1695. (James Savage notes, "a Thomas Poor/e's death was mentioned as 7 Feb. 1695." The notation was recorded with information about Thomas' brother, Daniel's family.) No record can be found of a marriage or re-location, but many believe that he went from Andover to Virginia and may be the Thomas Poore who settled on the Chowanoke River in 1663. He could have returned to Andover, where he died. There were many English-born Thomas Poores in the Colonies during this time,
from Barbados to Massachusetts. One of these was Thomas Poore, born 1660 in England and was the ancestor of the Goochland County, VA Poores.
