Lela Maud Schjerven of Junction City died Sunday, Jan. 17 at Valley View Professional Care Center.

The Johnson Funeral Chapel was in charge of cremation.

She was born in Agra, to Michael and Lura Belle Wagner (Wagoner) Sullivan. She moved to Junction City as a small child and graduated from Junction City High School in 1909.

She was married to Einar Nelson Schjerven, Aug. 31, 1922 in Chicago, Ill. He served as a captain in the Army until his retirement in 1933. He preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1937. Mrs. Schjerven had worked as a bookkeeper for Durlands and also worked at Fort Riley with civil service from 1942 until she retired in the late 1950s. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Sigrid Kirk of Savannah, Ga.; one granddaughter, Karilan McPartland, Boston and one half-sister, Inez Sinnett of Eugene, Ore.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Burr Sullivan and two half-brothers, Huber Logan and Amzy Logan.

Inurnment will be in the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

The Johnson Funeral Chapel is handling local arrangements.

Obituary: Lela M. Schjerven - The Daily Union, Junction City, Kansas, Feb. 1, 1988

A memorial service for Lela M. Schjerven will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Valley View Professional Care Center with the Rev. Allen Mosiman of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Mrs. Schjerven died, Jan. 17 at Valley View Professional Care Center. Inurnment will be in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

She was a secretary for civil service at Fort Riley for approximately 10 years and had worked for Durlands, a furniture store, in Junction City as a bookkeeper in the 1940s.

Survivors include a daughter, Sigrid Kirk, Savannah, Ga., a half-sister, Inez Sinnett of Eugene, Ore. and a granddaughter, Karilan McPartland of Boston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Einar Schjerven, Nov. 24, 1937 and two brothers, Wayne and Burr Sullivan and two half-brothers, Huber and Amzy Logan.

The Johnson Funeral Chapel is handling local arrangements.
