108. Jonathan⁴ Bemiss (Ephraim³ Bemis, Ephraim², Joseph¹)³⁸⁹ was born 20 May 1750 in Ashford, Conn.³⁸⁹, and died 28 Nov 1813 in Burlington Flats, Ostego, New York ^390,³⁹¹. He married Mary Griggs³⁹² 20 Jan 1774 in Conn.³⁹². She was born 12 Feb 1743/44³⁹², and died 26 Jun 1814 in Burlington Flats, Ostego, New York ³⁹³.

I extracted wills, and land records from the Otsego County Courthouse in Cooperstown, NY. Jonathan Bemiss estate settled 28 Jan. 1814. Indenture mentions his children Jonathan, Thomas, Phebe, Mary, and Lucretia.

Jonathan Bemiss witnessed.

I also found church records in Edmeston, that support the fact that my Jonathan Bemiss and family did live there, and attended The Baptist Church, which is no longer in existence.

There is a little museum in Edmeston, and I found maps showing where Jonathan and Thomas Bemiss lived. This is just about all the information I have on this family for that time period and area, as Thomas and family moved on to Chautauqua County, NY.

Died: In Harmony, August 9, 1867. Aged 81 yrs, 11 mos.

Born: Ashford, Ct., 9-10-1786. Parents moved to Otsego, N.Y. when she was quite young. She married Theron Bly who died some years ago. Moved to Chautauqua Co., N.Y. June 1810. Three years later, returned to Otsego to carry on father's farm. After 5 years, they returned to Chautauqua Co. She
was member of M.E. Church over 40 years.

They were listed in the Ashford Vital Records for Windham Co., Conn.
Jonathan and Mary Griggs Bemiss are buried in Edmeston, Otsego Co., N.Y. at
Robinson's Corners.
