Sarah "Sally"⁵ Bemus (Jotham⁴, Ephraim³ Bemis, Ephraim², Joseph¹)^1380,¹³⁸¹ was born 06 May 1768 in Bemus Heights, Saratoga Co., NY ^1382,¹³⁸³, and died 08 Jun 1865 in Evansville, Ind.^1384,¹³⁸⁵. She married Daniel Crawford^1386,¹³⁸⁷ 22 Mar 1789 in Saratoga County, NY ^1388,¹³⁸⁹, son of Archibald Crawford and Mary Benedict. He was born 14 Jan 1764 in Pound Ridge, Westchester Co., NY ¹³⁹⁰, and died 23 Oct 1839 in Saratoga Spa, NY^1390,¹³⁹¹.

Notes for Sarah "Sally" Bemus:
Sallie related the following to her Grandson about the Battle of Saratoga. General Gates and General Lincon used their house for a headquarters for a while, then moved the headquarters to another location. The British Army burned the house, and she and her mother had to spend a very severe winter living in the barn.

The Historians of the Saratoga Battle Field say the Bemus house was never used by General Gates, but from what is written in the Bemus, and Moore Genealogy, and from the location where the house (or Inn) stood, (in the point of Rt #4 and Rt #32, marker may be found behind the barn of the present day house) I feel it is very likely that when Gen Gates arrived on the scene he used the Bemus house as a headquarters.
In the Moore genealogy it states the Bemus Family Cemetery was near the Bemus house. I could find no indication of where the cemetery was. Saratoga park rangers had never heard of a cemetery there, but felt if it existed, it may have been moved to the cemetery in Stillwater, as that is where the Battle Field park has been re burying the remains of any Rev War Soldiers they have found. Elected: She was a woman of great vitality, courage and energy, and a life-long member of the Baptist Church. Her husband Daniel Crawford was for many years proprietor of "Highland Hall", situated in the southern part of the village of Saratoga Springs.¹³⁹²

Daniel operated the Hill House (a hotel) in Saratoga Spa.
