The following is his testimony of his service in the Revolution, as recorded by the Co. of Worcester, Mass., 9-6-1832, Judge Nathan Paine presiding.:

That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated:
"On or about the first day of August A.D. 1775, the said Amasa Bemis enlisted as a private soldier into a company of Massachusetts Militia commanded by Captain Cole in the regiment commanded by Col. ---- Woodbridge, marched to Cambridge near Boston, Mass., where we were put under the command of General Washington, was stationed at said Cambridge the remainder of the term being four months, and was discharged on about the first day of December the same year. Also, on the 30th of July A.D. he received a Sargeants warrant (which is here unto annexed) and enlisted as a Sargeant into a company of Foot, commanded by Captain Ralph Earll, in the Regiment commanded by Col. Danforth Keyes, marched to Providence, Rhode Island, and was stationed at Providence and other places in the vicinity, the remainder of the term being six months. Also, the said Amasa Bemis, sometime during the month of September, 1776, enlisted into a company of Massachusetts Militia as a private soldier; said company was commanded by Captain Josiah White, in the regiment commanded by Colonel Samuel Denny, that he marched from said Spencer to Hartford, thence to New Haven, CT., thence to Terry-Town, so --- on the River Hudson, New York, and was stationed there two months. All of the above tour of duty were done in the War of the Revolution. He was born at Spencer, aforesaid, October 10, 1757, and a record thereof is in the town records of Spencer, has lived in said Spencer ever since he was born and lives there still. Has never received a written discharge. The whole time of service as above specified is twelve months. Refers to William Pope --- Joseph Mason, Walton Livermore, and William Sumner who are my neighbors and who can state my character for truth. --- the second term of enlistment has he received a Sargeant's warrant, was by mistake inserted into the place where it stands, it ought to be placed after the second term of enlistment."

Signed: Nathan Paine, Judge of the Probate Court, and Amasa Bemis, himself.

Steve,
I got this from the Archives today and thought you would be interested, since you are such a great Bemis researcher and were such a great help to me early on in my search! I also found Nancy's grave Beloit, Wisconsin. She died 10-19-1855 and she is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Block C, lot 219, grave space 3. She went to Wisconsin to get a bounty land due from the govt. for Amasa's service. She went with her son Dexter Bemis. Thanks for all your help in the past.
Linda Smith, Nashville, Tenn.
