Silas Bemis (6), John (5), John (4), John (3), John (2), Joseph (1), was born in Winchendon, Mass., 4 Oct., 1761. He m. 1st in Springfield, 27 Jan., 1785, Olive Spencer (b. 1762, dau. of Timothy & Lois (Hill) Spencer of Springfield, Vt.) Olive d. ---. Silas m. 2nd at Springfield, 3 Feb., 1803, Beulah Sartwell. He m. 3rd at Springfield, 7 March, 1822, Judith Mannuel.\
Silas left Springfield in June of 1848 and moved to Haverhill, NH where he was living at the age of 88 years.

Pension Declaration dated 2 Oct., 1848: "I, Silas Bemis of Haverhill, in the County of Grafton, and State of New Hampshire, late of Springfield in the County of Windsor and State of Vermont, aged 88 years, testify and say that my father, John Bemis, at the commencement of the Revolutionary war, resided with his family, consisting of the following named children, in the town of Sudbury, County of Worcester, and State of Massachusetts, to wit: John, Isaac, Jonas, Jason, Silas, Amos, Reuben, Abigail, Sarah, Abel and Joel; they were all born in said town of Sudbury. I have understood that my brother, Amos drew for pension of $20 per annum and it was said that Jonas has drawn a year or so but an amount of his having considerable property he was dropped from the rolls. After the said war commenced, my father removed with his family from said town of Sudbury about 40 miles to the town of Winchendon in said County of Worcester. My said father John Bemis never was out in the United States military service during said Revolutionary War but four of his sons were to wit: John, Jonas, Amos and myself, but I have never obtained a pension
At the commencement of the war in 1775, my said brother John Bemis enlisted from the town of Sudbury in the company commanded by Capt. Aaron Haynes' Company of said Sudbury, Colonel Jonathan Brewer's (?) Regiment for the term of eight months as a private or corporal and I believe he served as Corporal the full term of the eight months and was discharged. My father aforesaid having removed to Winchendon, then my said brother John having returned home to said Winchendon and married Lucy Bates of said town. He then enlisted a second time at Winchendon in Capt. --- for Boynton's Company called -- Massachusetts Regiment. .... but was discharged after serving three months and returned home and his wife lived in my father's family during my brother's absence. After my brother John and myself removed from said Winchendon to Springfield Vermont about the year 1780, when I have resided until June, 1848, when I removed to this town, but my brother John removed to the State of New York about the year 1808 where he died and his widow now lives with his son James as I am informed, in the town of Rochester, Vermont. At the time of my father and I lived in Winchendon aforesaid, there was no other person living in said town by the name of Bemis except my father's family, or that was named John, but the two above named, to wit my father John and my brother John; And my father was never in the United States service. My brother John, if now living, would be 93 years of age.
All of the above is in accordance with my best recollection. State of New Hampshire, Grafton County, ss. Silas Bemis, Before Newall, Dike, Justice of the Peace."

Philo Hitchcock was a practicing physician. They removed to No. Springfield, Vt., thence to Whitestown, NY, and later to Monticello, Wisconsin where Philo died 5 July, 1860. Malinda died at Exeter, Wisconsin, 11 Jan., 1872. [10 chidden]
2. Sarah, b. 18 Jan., 1787. She m. Springfield, 5 June, 1809, Ezekiel Lockwood (b. 19 Jan., 1783, son of Jacob & Esther (Field) Lockwood of Cranston, RI and Springfield, Vt.). [see Hubbard�s History of Springfield, page. 371-2]
3. Silas, b. 18 Feb., 1789. He m. at Springfield, 28 Feb., 1808, Susanna Ward
