Reuben was born in Sudbury, Massachusetts in 1767 and died in Springfield,
VT May 5, 1839. He married twice. July 23, 1794 to Lois Spencer and Dec 9,
1830 to Clarissa Spooner. Lyman was born 1803 in Springfield, VT. He died
Dec 8, 1878 in Benton, NH and his wife was Anna Coon. I can take this
family back to Joseph 1640.

Abel probably is the son of John and Abigail. If I were you, I would try to get a look at a microfilm copy of the Winchendon records. It's unusual for a birth to be listed without parents.

It's also possible that Abel was b. in Sudbury. Following is from the pension application for Silas Bemis (son of John/Abigail):

"...my father John Bemis at the commencement of the Revolutionary War was reside? with his family consisting of the following named children in the town of Sudbury County of Worcester amd State of Mass to wit John, Isaac, James, Jason, Silas, Amos, Reuben, Abigail, Sarah, Abel and Jacob. They were all born in the town of Sudbury.... After the said war commenced, my father removed with his family ... to the town of Winchendon"

I'm decended from the oldest son John who was b. around 1755 (he was baptised in Weston Jan 18, 1756). Isaac was the next baptised (in March 1756), so it looks like the children are listed in order in the pension application. If that's true, Abel's birth could easily be in 1772.

light on this.
