Notes for Benjamin Bemis:
[History of Littleton, vol. 2, p. 601]
In a chapter on "Courts" the following appears:
The docket of "Esquire" Robins has its first entry "on the 10 day of November A. D. 1821," when the case of Benjamin Bemis v. Alfred Closon was entered. In this action the plaintiff recovered damages of $2.39, with costs taxed at $6.27, and the last civil action was that of Edward Strain v. Daniel Elliott, in which the plaintiff recovered judgment for $9.70, with costs amounting to $3.40.

First, Brigham Pike and siblings and line.
I have Benjamin, son of Henry, b. June 23, 1788 in Charlestown, NH, m. Ester
Ballou in 1807. Benjamin d. Sept. 17, 1847 in Littleton, NH. Children of
Benjamin and Ester are:

James Ballou Bemis, b. March 31, 1808 in Littleton, NH, d. in Illinois
Laura Bemis, b. Feb. 1810 in Littleton, d. April 2, 1812 in Littleton
Sanford Madison Bemis, b. Dec. 28, 1811 in Littleton, d. Aug. 21, 1813 in
Littleton
Laura Bemis, b. Jan. 1814 in Littleton, d. Aug. 21, 1815 in Littleton
Benjamin Franklin Bemis, b. April 17, 1816 in Littleton, m. Eluthera Woods
Francis Wyman Bemis, b. December 2, 1823 in Littleton, m. Sarah Farr, June 7,
1848; she was b. 1816 in Littleton; he d. in Illinois.
Brigham Pike Bemis, b. May 13, 1829 in Littleton, d. in Illinois

I lose track of them after about 1848-1850 as all siblings migrated
to Illinois. All were farmers and I guess living in northern NH and farming
was a lot worse than moving to Illinois and farming. I don't see Moses S.

Found this citation and liked the wording.... :) I know just how the
writer feels.......

AARON BALLOU,[ James, James, James, Maturin]; b. in Cumberland, R.
I., Sept. 25, 1766; m. Catherine Bowen, dr. of Thomas and Penelope

9. Elizabeth, b. not given; m. Reuben Pike.

Aaron Ballou settled awhile on a farm near his father in
Richmond, N. H., prob. a paternal gift wholly or in part. There all
his chn. were b., as we have understood--though we are not quite
certain about one or two of the youngest. As nearly as we can judge
from certain documents, he sold out his homestead in the Spring of
1801, and removed to Grafton Co., N. H., to a town then called
Concord, but afterwards Lisbon, its present name. He there engaged in
merchandize for several years. The only characterization of Aaron
that has reached us came from Russell Whipple, his nephew, to Mr.
Peck, in 1873. He wrote briefly thus.--"Uncle Aaron Ballou was a
lively, cheerful man, very well disposed." This scanty morsel
indicates that much has gone down to oblivion which might have done
honor to his memory. We will presume that both he and his wife
deserved a reputable record. He d. in 1807. Mrs. Catherine afterward
deserved a reputable record. He d. in 1807. Mrs. Catherine afterward
m. successively Henry Gale and John Bley. Her death-date is unknown
to us.

ESTHER BALLOU, [Aaron, James, James, James, Maturin]; b. in Richmond,
N. H., Dec. 22, 1788; m. Benjamin
Bemis, pedigree, birth-date, mge.-date, &c., not ascertained. Issue,
said to have been b. in Littleton, N. H.--

1. James Bemis, b.
2. Franklin Bemis, b.
3. Moses Bemis, b.
4. Francis Bemis, b.
5. Brigham Bemis, b.

We waited long to learn something more of this family but in vain. No
echo returned from out the thick darkness, and we can say no more.
