Notes for Captain Simeon Draper:
[Draper:126] Captain Simeon was one of those typical Yankees that have made the country what it is. He enlisted in the Revolutionary Army, when but a lad of sixteen, and was promoted Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain. He kept the well known "Brookfield Tavern" at West Brookfield, Mass. for many years. This was the half-way house between the east and west. He owned and operated that part of the stage line, from Worcester to Springfield, which ran in pre-railroad days, so regularly between New York and Boston. He was elected to represent Brookfield in the General Court 1809-12-15-16-17-18-19-29-30; and was a member of the constitutional Convention of 1820. He held many offices in West and South Brookfield, such as Justice and Selectman. In 1800 he was given a commission in the regular Army by President John Adams, and served till the standing Army was abolished. General Lafayette was his guest over night at his house in Brookfield, on his second visit to America. He was an active Freemason, belonged to, and presided over Meriden Sun Lodge of Brookfield. He received a pension from the government, which his widow enjoyed till her death.

[the following from Curtis Bemis:18Mar2001]

The History of Dublin is quite ambiguous about Dr. Samuel Hamilton. In the genealogy section it states that he died in 1805 (see the above). However, we see on pp. 474-475 in the Political and Municipal History section that he was a Selectman, beginning in 1804, for 1804-1806, 1808-1809, a representative in the years 1810-1811, 1813-1815. In Chapter XVI, Physicians, Sickness and Mortality, p.597, we have the following-- "Dr. Samuel Hamilton was clerk of the Dublin Social Library in 1794, and he appears to have been the principal physician in the town till his removal in 1815. He lived on the site of the Dr. Heald house, now French's Inn. He was a representative to the General Court, a selectman, a merchant, and, for many years, had much influence in managing the business of the town. He moved to
Canandaigua, N.Y., and afterwards to Rochester, N.Y.. Dr. Moses Kidder succeeded to the home and the practice of Dr. Hamilton in 1815."
