Mr. Foster Bemis, for nearly 27 years a resident of this city, died on Tuesday, at the residence of J. B. Whitcomb, on Bluff street, of congestion of the brain. He was the father of Mrs. J. B. Whitcomb (Persis J) and Mrs. J. W. Prouty (Lucy Ann) of this place and Alvin H. Bemis of Del Rapids, Dakota and Mrs. J. W. Webster (Lorinda) of Chicago.

[Tower:V1:110] Kept for a time the old hotel which then stood opposite the Congregational church. After this he kept store in a building which stood on the site of the present Boston Branch grocery. In 1853 he emigrated to the State of Wisconsin.
