Hi Curt
Yes Brigham Pike Bemis was my gggrandfather and yes he had a brother Moses.
I wonder how much interaction there ws between aunts and uncles, cousins and
so on in the 1850s. Illinois was still a hard place to live in the 1850s
especialy if you were a farmer. All those mentioned in my query except for
Brigham and his brother Francis were gone by 1860 or so and Francis left by
early 1870s. They all seemed to have arrived about the same time.
Brigham,Francis, and Moses from NH and the rest VT, NY etc. There were
Bemises in Ogle County earlier but no close connection that I can find. Ogle
County is the next county west. Roger C. has documented them. There are some
who say James, another brother was here also but I have seen that yet.
Francis brought Esther neeBallou Bemis, their mother with them. I believe she
died here here before he moved on but again no proof and there probably
never will be.
Curt I don't have you in my database, what is your line
Happy New Year To All
Tom

I am tracing the death of my gggrandfather Brigham Pike Bemis in April of 1881. He was a small farmer in Northern Illinois. For some reason he was in Jacksonville, Florida in April of 1881. To the best of my knowledge he had no relation there.
The doctors in attendance were Dr. J.D.Mitchell and Dr. Neal Mitchell. Their offices were at the corners of Forsyth,Julia and Adams. The undertaker was Mr. Calvin Oak. The is no adress listed for him but his bill also says he was a dealer in marble mantles. As part of his bill there was a $2.00 charge for a health certificate. I have contacted the county but there is no record for him. Maybe I was at the wrong facility. The bills were paid by his son Frank W. Bemis.
Does anyone have any ideas were I should try next?
Thanks in advance for any tips.
Tom Bemis
