JEFFERSON COUNTY UNION Vol XIII, No. 46, Fri Jan 19, 1883, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin:
About the county: Jefferson: Clark Bemis, brother of S M Bemis, and Mrs. George Allen, Of Milford, was confined here on Monday and taken to Oshkosh on Tuesday. From there he will be sent to St. Peter, MN, and confined at the insane asylum at that place, where he has already been an inmate for some time. Another brother of this unfortunate family is among the incurable insane of this county, and is now awaiting admission to the new asylum.

A newspaper article from Rochester MN of Jan 16, 1894, reported his death: A Patient Attacked and Killed by Another Who Became Violently Insane. A paralitic patient at the State Hospital was injured by another patient last Saturday in such a manner that he died the following day. The old man who was killed, Clark Bemis, had been in this and the St. Peter hospital for years. The other patient was Hans Michaelson, who was committed from Minneapolis, and though he was habitually cross and surly he had exhibited no signs of violence recently.............The remains were taken this morning by relatives from Princeton, Minn.

His father was Clark Bemis born in Wisc. His Mother was Mary Beden Born in Mich. His wife was Elsie who was 55 years old. Jesse died at 63Y1M25D. He is buried in Greenwod Cemetery in Park Rapids. He died of purulent empysma of right pural cavity with collapsed lung. He also had a duodenal ulcer with massive hemorrhage.
