Notes for Estella Bemis: Aunt Stella worked in a shoe factory in Cincinnati and never married. She lived with her mother, Mary Marie Shuck Bemis, in Ludlow, Ky. I attended her funeral, and remember that her long, beautiful, black hair was cut short, like a man's. She was only 56, but had been put into an "old folks home" before her death |

Notes for Edward Robert Bemis: Grandpa Bemis was a 'Buyer' for the Fairstore, a Cincinnati department store before the Great Depression, but was moved to a warehouse so a company executive's family member could have his job after the 1929 "crash". He was in 'photo interpretation" during WW II, and was offered a good job at Eastman Kodak, but he developed glaucoma and couldn't see, and that ended that. |
