1. JOHN¹ POSTON was born October 1850 in Tennessee, and died September 15, 1906. He married MARY CORDELIA WALKER May 31, 1878 in Knox County, Tennessee ¹. She was born October 1854 in Knoxville,Tennessee, and died June 25, 1911 in unknown.

Notes for MARY CORDELIA WALKER:
The 1900 census for Campbell County, Tennessee shows John and Mary Poston, son Robert born Nov 1887, age 12 which is Robert Givens, correct, and a son Heffner or Hoffman (I can't make out the writing), born July 1894 and is age 5. It also shows that she had 6 children with 2 living at the time of this census. I only knew of Robert and George Lewis who was not born yet in 1900, but I never knew of Heffner or Hoffman and I know nothing of the other 4 and haven't found anything on them yet.

Marriage Notes for JOHN POSTON and MARY WALKER:
I have a copy of page 13,400 from the State of Tennessee that shows three entries for John Poston and Mary C Walker. One dated May 24, 1878 which is the "bond"--roll 82, 151 for 1878; this is a single page document stating the names of the two individuals, the name of the witness (W. F. Luttrell), and indicating that the groom and witness are under bond for #1200 should the marriage prove to have a legal impediment. This is standard throughout the state. The "marriage record"--a two line entry in a bound marriage book, giving the date and number (May 24, 1878, #151) of the bond, and again, the names of the two individuals, the date the marriage was solemnized, and by whom (T. P. Rutherford, Minister of the Gospel. The explanation of these three entries are from Fran Schell, assistant Director, Public Services; Tennessee State Library and Archives, 403 7th Avenue North; Nashville, TN 377243-0312. She also states that there is no marriage application giving information about the parties families.
