Agnes aileen Poston Christy was born Sept 26, 1914 in Kensee, Kentucky to Ethel Irene Southerland and Robert Givens Poston. She lived in Kentucky, Ohio, West Firginia, Illinois and Pennsylvania. she lived in various locations in several states. She attended school in godfrey, PA in Westmoreland County, Pocohontas in Illinois, Sun Mine in Butler County, PA and Culmerville in Culmerville, Allegheny Co., PA. She graduated 8th grade in Coe school on Bull Creek Road, Fawn Twp, tarentum, PA in 1929. M<ostly a housewife but also worded as a day worker doing housework, candy kitchen, helper and waitress, seamstress & counter girl at a dry cleaners. Agnes was an avid church member and leader.

ILLIAM EDWARD CHRISTY:
Edward was born in West Tarentum on April 11, 1905 to Lottie May Cramer and William Reed Christy. He attended school at Donnelsville School in Fawn Township and Grandview School in Tarentum, PA., and was a lifelong resident of that area. He started working in the mines when he was 14 years of age and worked most of his life in various coal mines in Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Ohio. He also worked for a time at Glass Works Construction and Road Building; and W PA Stone Quarry. He worked on the Bull Creek Road, helped build the bridge at old Coe school and the third bridge out the Bull Creek Road. He also did farm work. Before retiring, he was a coal miner with the Sarver Standard Coal Mine, in Fawn Twp. He was disabled by a heart attack in July of 1960. He was a member of the Millerstown United Methodist Church of Fawn Twp., and the United Mine Workers of America. Edward died at 7:50 P.M. in Citizens General Hospital in New Kensington, PA after a 19 year illness. Services were held at 1:30p.m. in the Robert E.. Peters Funeral Home in Natrona Heights where his pastor, the Rev. Howard G. Rimer officiated. Private burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Dorseyville.

Edward had his first heart attack in 1960. The last day he worked was June 24, 1960. His vacation began on June 25, 1960 and he went to a ball game in Pittsburgh (Forbes Field) on Friday July 1, 1960. He awoke on Saturday morning July 2nd, feeling ill. Chest pain and heaviness in his chest. He had a cardiogram on Saturday afternoon but it wasn't read until Wednesday, July 6, 1960. (No workers in the hospital Saturday, Sunday and Monday was the 4th of July.) The doctor had advised him to stay in bed and remain as quiet as possible. On Wednesday, the doctor called and said the cardiogram showed a bad heart attack and ordered him to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh by ambulance. He stayed there for 21 days and came home on July 28. His second trip to the hospital for blood clots and other complications was on April 12, 1961 and he came home on April 29, 1961.

Dad's social security number is 209-05-7025 and was issued in Pennsylvania on January 1, 1937. I have his original Social Security card.

Dad worked in the coal mines for a total of 35 years and ceased working on August 1, 1960. He was employed at Van Thiel Coal Co from Oct 1926 to September 1933. He waorked at Sarver Standard Coal Co He was employed at Haas Coal Company in Leechburg from Oct 1, 1933 to January 16, 1938 as a cutter and motorman. He was employed at Sarver Standard Coal Co from October 1, 1941 until August 1, 1960 when he became disabled. On October 1, 1950 Sarver Standard Coal Co was sold to Batcher Brothers, owners of Culmerville Coal Co, but Edward was retained as an employee.

William Edward and Agnes Aileen (my Dad and Mom) were married on December 1, 1930. They applied for their license at Butler County Courthouse in Butler, PA. They were married at the Bull Creek Presbyterian Manse in Frazier Township, Allegheny County, PA. by the Rev. Robert Lloyd Roberts. Mom's father, Robert G. Poston, her sister Anna Marie Poston and Anna's fiancee, Ralph B. Thompson accompanied the couple. A wedding supper was held at the home of the brides parents, Mr. & Mrs. Robert G. Poston of R D # 2, Tarentum, PA, Bartleys Hollow, Fawn Township, Allegheny County. A Serenade was held on Friday, December 5, 1930 for relatives and friends. Their wedding trip was postponed until the Christmas holiday. It was spent in Steubenville, Ohio at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Leo Dobzynski (Peg & Lee) sister and brother in law of the groom. (This info was from a small blue notebook of Mom's marked RECORD.

Robert lived in Sarver the past 34 years. He worked in the open hearth, bearing, and repairs departments at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., Brackenridge Works for 38 years before retiring in 1978. He was a member of Millerstown United Methodist Church, former member of Tarentum Moose, and a member of Brackenridge Integrity Lodge, Fawn Outdoor Life Lodge and Brackenridge USWA. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and playing guitar and singing.
