Notes for WILLIAM GARRISON SOUTHERLAND:
Grandpa Southerland remarried after the death of Hanna and had several children to that second marriage but we have no records. He died many years after the death of his first wife He only had one arm but I don't know how or when he lost it. He had a stub right above the elbow. I remember knitting a closed mitten like sleeve to keep it warm in the winter. I remember meeting him several times when Grandma & Grandpa Poston lived at Flicks in Natrona Heights. (Birdville back in those days. In 1950 Mom visited him at the home of Aunt Van Lear Ann's house in Jelico, Tenn and in 1952 my brother Bill visited him there also. At some time or another, supposedly, Grandpa Southerland lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. I believe this information was given to Debbie by Mom.

Southerland is a Choctaw Surname. Supposedly the 5th generation back from Ethel Irene Southerland, that would be 4th generation from William Garrison Southerland, the wife is an Indian Princess, the daughter of a Chieftain in Tennessee.

Mom (Agnes) stated that she was told by Ethel Irene that Hanna Evaline died just a few weeks prior to Agnes' birth of Sept 26, 1914 which would make Hanna's death abt Sept of 1914

Elbert is shown on the 1900 census in Tennessee as grandson of B W Link (I think) and birth date of Sept 1892. The SS Death Index shows an Elbert Southerland born 9-4-1892 and residence was Dickson, Tenn. 37055 and died May 1970 SS# 415-60-4871****This is the wrong Elbert Southerland. See copy of Application for Social Security number in file.

A picture we have that was taken in 1900 shows William and Hanna with Elbert, Ethel and Johnny, and lists Elbert as 14; Ethel as 10 and Johnny as 8 years of age.
