I'm researching the Daly family of County Westmeath, Ireland.
My great-great grandfather, James Daly, came to America in March 1872 with his wife Bridget (nee Smith) and 14 of their 15 children. They settled in New Haven County, Connecticut.

James Daly was born either in 1798, according to his obituary in the Meriden Record-Journal, or in 1816, according to the 1880 U.S. Census Records. He married Bridget Smith, who was born in 1826, according to the 1880 Census. James died April 5, 1895, Bridget followed August 3, 1896. They married in Ireland, and Bridget gave birth to 15 children before they sailed to the port of New York City on the S.S. Atlantic, March 28, 1872.

Their children are as follows:
Catherine, b. abt. 1848, married Bernard Havens on January 21, 1869
Owen, b. 1850, married Mary A. Havens, died February 27, 1925
James, b. 1853, married Margaret (maiden name unknown)
Patrick, b. 1855
Margaret, b. abt. 1856, married (given name unknown) Jones
Michael, b. abt. 1857, married
Thomas, b. 1858, married Eva Myers
John, b. abt. 1860
Joseph, b. 1862, died before 1895
Mary, b. 1863, married Dennis Coleman
Peter, b. 1864, died before 1895
Keron, baptised January 24, 1866, Kilcleagh, Co. Westmeath, married Mary T.?, died December 22, 1946
Bernard, b. 1867
Bridget, b. 1868, married Peter Myers
William, b. 1870

I've found quite a bit of information on the family after they came to the U.S. Gathering information on who James Daly was before he came over is my current goal. Who were his parents, sisters and brothers? How far back does the family line go in County Westmeath? I've traced the family name back to the 1200's, but I'm not sure where my line fits in. I'm also curious about possible Daly's still living in County Westmeath that I may be related to.

Where exactly did James and his family live? It's pretty certain that they came from County Westmeath, but portions of the family may have resided in bordering County Offaly.

Other family names:
Havens/Heavin:
Two of James' offspring married members of the Havens family, or Heavin, as it is known in Ireland. The Havens clan come from Ories, Athlone, County Westmeath, where several family members still reside today. A certain number of Havens emigrated to New Haven County, Connecticut, as well.
O'Brien:
This is my grandmother's maiden name. Her father, Thomas, emigrated to Pawtucket, Rhode Island in the early 1900's from Ireland. I have very little information about this branch of the family's past.
