I have been doing extensive research on the Peter Cawley / Cauley family in Pennsylvania. It looks like the name was originally Cawley in Ireland but sometimes changed to Cauley in the U.S. Most of my current research is in Pennsylvania.Peter Cawley came from Co. Sligo, Ireland around 1850. Born around 1819, he had at least 2 brothers, John and Terrance. He had a sister, Ann, who married Patrick Bly (Blygh) in PA. He also had 7 half brothers who settled around Boston, Mass. Peter married Catherine McKenzie (Kensey) from Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland, and had 14 children, 5 who died as children at Sartwell, Pennsylvania. Of the remaining 9, four because priests at St. Patrick's in Erie, PA, two became nuns, one sister was their housekeeper for 70 years at St. Pat's. The remaining two, John (my great-grandfather) and Mary married. Other related families are Crowley, Plunkett, Burgoyne, Hanley, Bly and Welch.Would love to make contact with anyone knowing this family. I have spent 2500 hours researching them myself and I have written a newsletter and also a book (on the priests).
