I am mainly of German ancestry with a wee bit of Irish added for good measure. My father's parents were Danube Swabians from the Central Highlands of Hungary. They immigrated to the U.S.A. in the mid 1890's. I believe their ancestors immigrated to Hungary from Bavaria in the mid 1700's. The primary Hungarian villages involved are Isztimer, Acsteszer, and Oszlop which is now Bakonyoszlop. The primary surnames are Galler, Werger, Leber, Mulner, Zingieszer (Czingisser), Reinhardt, Gall, Budir and Hellebrand.

My mother's German ancestors, surname Damroth, immigrated from the Rhine Pfalz. I have traced them back to my 4 great grandfather, Heinrich Damroth, who, from 1763-1790, was a member of the Grenadier Regiment of Count Ludwig IX from Hessen-Darmstadt. The regiment was housed in the city of Pirmasens, Rhine Pfalz. Heinrich's grandson, Franz Anton Damroth, immigrated to New York City in 1851. I have continued to trace the family of Heinrich's wife, Maria Salome Schorr, back to 1599 to the birth of Katharina, wife of Fritz Höh. The primary towns involved are Trulben, Rodalben, Fischbach b. Dahn, Ludwigswinkel, Vinningen and Pirmasens. The primary surnames are Damroth, Winter, Jantz, Schorr and Rödel, Sommer and Höh.

Researching the family of Anna Marie Winter, the wife of Franz Anton Damroth, has led me to the Bas Rhin area of the Alsace and the villages of Bremmelbach, Keffenach, Ingolsheim and Shoenenbourg. The primary surnames are Winter, Hettinger (Hedinger), Walter (Walther), Ernst, Rubenthaler and Bielmann (Bihlmann).

My mother's Irish ancestors immigrated from County Limerick and County Cavan, Ireland. The primary surnames are Woods, Ryan, Smith and Brady.

My primary sources have been the microfilmed records of the LDS, the National Archives, the NYC Municipal Archives, the NY State Library, the NY State Archives, the Connecticut State Library, St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hartford, and the vital records departments of of various cities and towns. I would like to thank my cousins, Shirley Woods, Lynne Damroth Cohen, David Damroth, Charlie and Ruth Glode and Elwood and Rosemary Zingieser for their contributions. For my Rhine Pfalz research, I am indebted to Bernhard Braun from Pirmasens, Manfred Schaeffer from Australia and my internet cousins Larry Knarr from Ohio and Bob Buckheit from Maryland.
