FamilyTree of Lewis/John/McCullough/Frampton/Dowden & Wells

Updated March 25, 2008

PLEASE NOTE: I wasn't able to upload the Descendants of William Frampton (due to formating of this program). However, you can view the Frampton report if you open the book included on this page. (The book is called Lewis Descendants, but all family group reports are included therein)

ALSO CONTAINED HEREIN IS INFORMATION ON THE DESCENDANTS OF WILLIAM and JENNIE McCULLOUGH AND WILLIAM and SARAH FRAMPTON ALL OF PENNSYLVANIA. The information gathered on the McCulloughs and Framptons has been fascinating!!

As of Aug 3, 2006 (updated 8/4/2007), I have also included information on the descendents of THOMAS DOWDEN (b.1650)...including Zachariah, Michael, John, Zephaniah Dowden...plus many others. This part of the family tree is still a work in progress. I welcome all suggestions, additions, corrections and subtractions!!

In November 2006, I found the Henry Wells booklet that my mother had. Her mother was a Wells...Nida Romaine Wells Dowden...The descendents of Henry Wells is also included on this homepage.

Because the home page was started as a result of my research on John & Jane Lewis, you will find that the most information is dedicated to the Lewises, Hughes, Johns, etc. I subsequently received the Frampton and McCullough information, and, most recently, the Dowden information.

The information contained in this family tree has been verified as much as humanly possible.

John and Jane Lewis were from the area of Llanelli {also spelled Llanelly}, Wales. At least four of their sons immigrated to the US. Daniel Lewis immigrated to the US in June 1898. Daniel Lewis is my great-grandfather. He married Mary John (in Wales on May 3, 1870) and she immigrated to the US --traveling with her children Alice (age 7), Luther (age 5), Sidney (age 3). They arrived at Ellis Island on December 24, 1898. Alice is my grandmother.

We have found information that Daniel's brothers Samuel, William and Phillip also immigrated to the US...as you will see in the book.

The ship manifest of Daniel states that Daniel was joining "his brother-in-law Mr and Mrs ? Jones in Martins Ferry, Ohio". As of Jan. 2006, I have learned that these people were Mr. & Mrs. Tom (Mary) Jones. Mary was a sister of Annie Sansom Lewis...Samuel's wife. Samuel is Daniel's brother.

I have included as many pictures as I had available to me. I will update the pictures and information as I learn it.

Daniel Lewis' (b. 1870) siblings included William (b.1862), David (b. abt.1868), Samuel (b.abt.1872), John (b. abt. 1873), Phillip (b. abt.1876), and Emily Jane (b. abt. 1883).

Daniel's wife was Mary John -- daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Davies) John. Mary was born abt. 1870 in Britton Ferry, Glamorgan County, Wales. Her siblings include Margaret (b. abt. 1868), William (b. about 1869 -- not shown on any subsequent census reports). The 1881 Wales census shows Benjamin as a widower. The 1891 census shows that he had remarried to Rachel? (b. abt. 1858) with children Daniel (b. abt. 1885), Evelyn (b. abt. 1890) and Lizzie [I think] (b. abt. 1900).

Daniel's brother Phillip immigrated to the US (abt. 1895) and lived at least part of the time in the Baltimore, Maryland area.

As of Jan. 2006, we have received several missing pieces to the puzzle when Betty Ann was guided to my website where she signed the guestbook stating "I am Samuel Lewis's granddaughter"... Reading it took my breath away!! We have emailed one another and have shared pictures and information as much as possible. I am so grateful that Betty Ann was lead to my website (as of 12/2006..my website it under reconstruction)!!

I welcome any additional information including corrections which can be sent to my email address shown above. I would love to find family either in Wales or the US.

And to my "known" family... enjoy walking through time while learning of your roots!

Marlene
