3. Sheridan² McCullough (William¹) was born 16 Sep 1801 in Baltimore, MD, and died 26 Dec 1888 in Jefferson Co, PA. He married Mary Ross 27 Jan 1825 in Pennsylvania. She was born Abt. 1804 in Pennsylvania, and died 06 Sep 1866 in Jefferson Co, PA.

One of the first settlers was Elisha M. Graham, who located on the farm now owned by Sheridan McCullough, to whom he sold it in 1829.
Mr. Sheridan McCullough is now in the eighty-fourth year of his age, and has resided in Union about fifty-eight years. Mr. McCullough for some years has been almost blind. He says that the worst experience he had in farming in Jefferson county was caused by the long and severe drought of 1844, which was of longer duration than that of the summer of 1887--no rain fell for many weeks. Mr. McCullough had taken grain to four different mills, but though he went to the mills time after time, he found his grain unground, and his family had to subsist on potatoes. When he had gone for the ninth time to mill, his son David, and daughter, Elizabeth, who were digging potatoes upon which to make another meal, descried him coming, and perceiving that he had at last a
"grist" with him, threw down their hoes and rushed to the house, knowing that they would have bread at last. Sheridan became a member of the Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, Centre Co., PA early in life. Minister at the time was Dr. James Linn after whom one of his sons was (presumably) named. After moving to Union Township
(then in Lycoming Co), he joined the local Presbyterian Church. At his death, he was a member of the Pisgah Church in Corsica.
