"The Family of Adam and Mary Claycomb Barr lineage was published in the in the mid 1970's by Steve Barr and Thelma Mae Barr Flaherty of Louisville,Ky. (She is my aunt on my father's side.) Much of the research comes from Dr. James Arthur Townsend of House Springs, Missouri. Dr. Townsend died in 1968, but his papers were located in the Archives of the Missouri Historical Society in Saint Louis,MO (and are used with their permission). It took Dr. Towsend a considerable sum of time and money to accumulate the vast information on the many related families of the Barr lineage. It is apparent that he must have planned on printing the information. From his notes, it appears that he was still attempting to locate the parentage of Adam Senior. He has sketch of several Barr families as the possible ancestors of Adam Sr., but I don’t think he had determined which one was the true line of descent (we are continuing the search to try to determine the ancestry of Adam Sr. The book draws heavily on Dr. Townsend’s material for those members of the BARR family that went “west” from the family homestead on Sugar Tree Run in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. Townsend’s work was complete into the 1950’s and contains addresses and occupations of the family members that would take years to collect, if at all possible to unearth the information today. |
