2. ROBERT M.² MCAFEE (JAMES¹)³ was born April 14, 1847 in Lee County, Virginia, and died August 29, 1936 in Greenville, Green County, Tennessee. He married (1) NANCY A. PUGH⁴ Abt. 1869 in Claiborne County, Tennessee, daughter of JAMES PUGH and SARAH GROSS. She was born January 28, 1854 in Lee County, Virginia, and died September 13, 1889 in Union County, Tennessee. He married (2) EMMALINE M. ARRINGTON December 07, 1885 in Madison, North Carolina. She was born 1865 in North Carolina, and died February 04, 1933 in Greene County, Tennessee ⁵.

According to Maude:

Robert had a brother by the name of William and he lived in Virginia and his mother was a Minton before they were married and part of Robert's children were born in Virginia. Robert served in the civil war in the Union army. When my dad was a small boy his dad was making whiskey with another man, I don't know whether they were making it legally or not, but they had a falling out and Grandpa got up one morning was going down the road and come by the Blacksmith shop and this man was there but Grandpa decided not to pay him any mind and someone hollered "Watch Out Bob" and grandpa fell to the ground and the shot went over his head then he shot and killed the man. He got scared and left (latter he was cleared), but he had done gone. He had my dad take him as far as he thought it was safe for him to go and get back home. They never saw him again until I was 9 or 10 year old and how they found him was Uncle George was coming from Memphis on a train.

Uncle George was talking to another man during the ride and during the conversation he asked if he was kin to a Robert McAfee and got his address from him. They wrote a letter and received an answer and then went to Greenville to see him. He had never been farther away than that from home.

Robert McAfee was married three times. Had a girl by the second wife and had a boy and a girl by his third wife. The girls names were Elizabeth and Ann. The boy's name was James.

The whiskey story is true according to Glenn Mcafee, It happened in Brown's Gap Kentucky in Harlen Co. The Man that got shot was killed and his name was Comb's. Robert left the area to keep from being killed himself.
Robert spent a year in jail in Pineville, Ky.bcause someone swore a lie aganist him. Robert was nicknamed the "Red Fox" because he was red headed.
