Notes for Angie Frances Lankford: Grandma Angie seldom went with Grandpop Clayton on his boat 'The Franklin E'... Especially when the weather was bitter cold. For unknown reasons she happened to go with Grandpop on the morning that he suffered his heart attack and died. She put a piece of canvas over his body, then started the engine and piloted the boat through several small, winding creeks back to port in Crisfield, Maryland. She had never piloted nor even knew how to operate the hard-to-start diesel engine in her life. She just did what had to be done... get him back home! My cousin Franklin (Butch) Esley {The namesake of the boat} and I have been in the area many times with Grandpop and in the best of weather it is an hour or so trip through very treacherous creeks... it was a miracle that this frail, elderly lady managed to pilot the boat, especially under the extreme stress of having just watched her husband die.
