Samuel Maring (son of Moses Maring and Elenor Monroe) was born January 04, 1820 in Somerton, Belmont Co., Ohio, and died July 11, 1901 in Caldwell Twp., Appanoose Co., Iowa. He married Alma Hall on April 21, 1842 in Belmont Co., Ohio.

SAMUEL MARING DEAD FATHER OF M. B. MARING AND PIONEER SETTLER IS NO MORE
Samuel Maring, father of M. B. Maring, of this city, died yesterday evening at 6:00 o'clock at his home near Exline in this county. Father Maring at the time of his death was 82 years of age and has for a few months past been confined to his bed as the result of paralytic strokes, the fourth one occurring Sunday last and resulting in death. Father Maring was a pioneer in Appanoose County, settling on the land on which he died. M. B. Maring reached his bedside shortly after death had ensued and is now at the homestead. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at Exline, and there was a very large attendance as Mr. Maring was widely known and very highly respected. A number of people from this city drove over this afternoon and attended the funeral.

Uncle Sam Maring, as he is known around Exline died July 11, 1901 and was buried last Friday. He was 82 years old and a pioneer of southern Iowa. Uncle Sam was a clever citizen and had been married three times and his children and grandchildren were counted by the score.
