Notes for Johann Nicolaus Maring: Some of the information about Johann Nicolaus [Maring] MEHRING came from a book, "The Mering Family" by Warren Mering [ Sussex, NJ: Wantage Recorder Press, 1929]. Much information is unreliable but is a valuable tool. It states that three brothers came from Germany around 1750, George, Nicolaus and Francis. I have found no information on Franz, so I don't know if he even exists. George has a descendant named Donald Maring living in Glenside, Pa., who has done research on that line and on the Maring name in general. In "The Mering Family," it states that Nicolaus was an iron refiner and farmer in Sussex Co. and Morris Co., New Jersey.
Probate records say Nicolaus died intestate in 1808 in Newton Township, Sussex Co., New Jersey. Only an inventory was taken on 10 June 1808 by Peter Bell and David Johnson.
