MEMORANDUM of AGREEMENT
made the 22nd day of May 1896 between David Henry Davies son of Joseph Hale Davies of Newport in the County of Monmouth, Mason, of the one part And J. J. Cordes & Co Ltd of Newport aforesaid Nail Makers, herinafter called the company of the other part, Whereby the said David Henry Davies of his own free will and with the consent of his said father doth agree to serve the Company from the 17th day of April 1894 to the 17 th day of April 1900 at the following rates of wages, vide licet - six shillings per week of fifty four working hours for the first year, seven shillings per week of fifty four working hours for the second year, eight shillings per week of fifty four working hours for the third year, nine shillings per week of fifty four working hours for the fourth year, thirteen shillings per week of fifty four working hours for the fifth year and fifteen shillings per week of fifty four working hours for the sixth year. AND the said Joseph Hale Davies hereby agrees that the said David Henry Davies his son shall faithfully serve the company and they the said company hereby agree to employ the said David Henry Davies in 'Mason's Work' and to pay him wages at the rates aforesaid so long as he shall continue in their service within the specified period. AND the company shall have the power to discharge the said David Henry Davies for wilfully absenting himself from his employment or for any other gross misbehaviour or neglect.

David died at the Royal Gwent Hospital from acute appendicitis and peritonitis toxaemia on the 8th August 1926. He was buried at St Woolos Cemetery, Newport on the 12th August 1926.
