Notes for ICABOD DAVIS:
Via email, 3/23/99 from Lois Powell
"The following were bap. in Roxbury and are believed to have been the children
of William and Jane:
xi. Benjamin; bap 7 Jan. 1674
xii Ichabod, bap. 1 April, 1676
xiii Ebenezer; bap 9 April, 1678
xiv William; bap 3 Jan 1680
xv Sarah; bap 20 July 1681
xvi Isaac; bap 18 April 1683"
Footnote: "Ichabod Davis m. Bethia ----; was deacon of Congregational church
at Roxbury, and by trade a tailor; bought in 1733 of Clement Corbin fifty-one
acres of land in Dudley, and in 1737 of William Dudley one hundred acres
"adjoining the Indian Meadow", also in Dudley. In 1750 he sold to Benjamin
his son one-half of one hundred and seven acres inDudley, being the land on
which the said son dwelt. He d. 16 March, 1754, and the balance of the farm
was given to the son in his will. This Benjamin was known as "retailer Ben"
from which it is inferred that he was a trader. He had a son Benjamin, b.
1710, who is 17331 went to Oxford and m. Sybyl dau of Joseph Rockett - the
first female ch. b. in Oxford - sett. in the easterly part of the town. He
served in the French War and after his return sett. just outside the town
limits on the south-east, near Nipmuck pond. He was the progenitor of the
family of the name which lived in the southerly part of Oxford, known as the
Benjamin Davis family"
That's it. I think Ichabod may be the one Scott was researching and said
he signed his will with some kind of seal that looked like it might have some
"blue blood" connected to it, but I never heard more about it.
