Notes for Louis Forcade, Sr.: "Louis was noted as one of the most skillful and thrifty farmers in this section of the county and at the same time one of the most liberal minded and progressive men in the community. He received his early education at the public schools and afterward attended Rohrer's Commercial College. After leaving college, he at once commenced to ear his livelihood as an agriculturist. his far was well improved and in a high state of cultivation and he raised some of the best crops of wheat to be found anywhere in .......... also served for eighteen years in the office of School Director." Louis acquired 55 acres in 1882 from the Joseph Becherer Estate and 80 acres from Benjamin Higgins in 1883. he bought 65 acres from his sisters after the death of his mother, Catharine, in 1889. He built the present home on this farm but the exact date is not known, possibly around 1870. The bricks were made on the farm and the foundation was made of sandstone. He built the present barn in 1900. He retired from the farm to Belleville, Illinois, when his son, George took over the farm.

From page 1014 of the History of St. Clair County: FORCADE, Louis, business man of Belleville, this county, and a native of St. Clair County, born in 1848, devoted the first twenty-eight years of his active live to farming and stock-raising. For the pas few years he has been a liquor dealer, and is considered successful in his chosen line of activity. His ancestors have been tillers of the soil for generations in Germany, and his father, Louis, was thus employed in the fatherland, where his birth occurred in 1812. Upon emigrating to America, the older man settled in Edgar County, IL, purchased land of the Government, and conducted thereon general farming. Louis Forcade, Jr., married Elizabeth Press in 1869, and of the union the following children have been born: Catherine, George, Louis, Henry, Ida, Hilda and Luella.
