Johann Michael Brecht (b. May 30, 1706, d. September 13, 1794)
Johann Michael Brecht (son of Johannes Brecht and Anna Katharina Hoffman) was born May 30, 1706 in Schriesheim, Mannheim, Baden, Germany, and died September 13, 1794 in HEIDELBERG, PENNSYLVANIA. He married MARGUERITE SIMONE on April 1728 in HEIDELBERG, PENNSYLVANIA, daughter of JACOB SIMONE.
Notes for Johann Michael Brecht:
The birth record is listed in the Schriesheim Lutheran Church records in Germany. Johann came to America in 1726, where he became known only as Michael. Michael appeared before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania on September 14, 1744 and took the oaths of allegience necessary to become a naturalized citizen. Michael served in the Revolutionary War, thus qualifying his descendents for the D.A.R. or the S.A.R. Due to his age, this seems unlikely, but it is true. Michael was buried in the German Reformed Burying Ground in Reading, Pennsylvania. The cemetery has since been moved. This information was compiled by Anna Lee Weems Shanks of 606 Riverside Avenue, Kingsport, Tennessee on February 26, 1974 and is on file in the Greene County Public Library in the open files. JKD
