7. CHARLES NAPP2 BENIGHT (JOSEPH A.1 BENNIGHT)96,97,98 was born November 10, 1809 in Chemung Co.?, NY, and died April 06, 1886 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN. He married (1) ELIZA ANN JONES99,100 May 05, 1833 in Vigo County, IN101, daughter of OTIS JONES and SARAH BUSH. She was born June 05, 1817 in Indiana102, and died March 15, 1852 in Vigo Co., IN - burial New Harmony Cemetery, Prairieton, Vigo Co.. He married (2) LOUISA COLWELL BIRCH103 July 10, 1853 in Clark Co., IL, daughter of JOHNSON BIRCH and SARAH (CALDWELL). She was born April 11, 1827 in KY.

HARLES NAPP BENIGHT:
      On July 6, 1827, Joseph Benight transferred to Charles N. Benight, west half of Section 1, Twp. 10, Range 11. On March 18, 1837, Charles entered land in Vigo Co., Indiana. SE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Section 4 in Twp. Ten North of Range Ten West containing 40 acres and 8/100ths of an acre.

      Charles came to Prairieton Twp. with his parents in 1818 and was reared to farming, an occupation he followed until 1855; when he moved to Terre Haute and engaged in the manufacturing of brick, which business he carried on fourteen years. He owned at one time about 1,000 acres of land, part of which he sold, dividing some of it among his children. He belonged to the militia that guarded Fort Harrison during the Indian war. He died April 6, 1886, a consistent member of the Centenary Methodist Church. This church was the first religious organization in Terre Haute. His widow owns a farm containing 256 acres of land, and has her residence in Terre Haute.

      History of Vigo Co., Indiana, 1891, says that there was a large increase of the population in 1817 and 1818 in Prairieton Twp., Vigo Co., Indiana and among those who came about that time was listed Joseph Benight. Also stated that a granddaughter, Eliza Ann Angel, was born in a house that stood where the Wabash River now runs on Section 6, and that this house belonged to her grandfather, Joseph Benight. Charles N. Benight's biography in this book says that he was a son of Joseph and Margaret (Rosson) Benight, who were of English descent and moved from New York to Prairieton Twp. in 1818. Their family consisted of twelve children.

  Notes for CHARLES DUDLEY BENIGHT:
CHARLES DUDLEY BENIGHT lives on the bank of the Wabash, on Secs. 33 and 34 of Prairieton township. He is a son of C.N. BENIGHT, of Terre Haute, and was born in Prairieton township, August 31, 1854. He was educated in Terre Haute, and took a course in Garvin's Commercial College. He was married in February, 1878, to Miss Hattie B. MILLER, of Terre Haute. His father and some other relatives came to Prairieton at an early day, and prepared the land for cultivation by their children.

      On May 29, 1830, Joseph Bennight transferred to Edwin east 1/2 of Sec. 1, Twp. 10, Range 11. Edwin entered land in Vigo Co., Indiana, on March 18, 1837. West 1/2 of SW 1/4 of Section 7 in Twp. 10 North of Range 10 West containing 73 acres and 64/100ths of an acre. Also East 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of practional Section 12 in Twp. 10 North of Range 11 West containing 80 acres.
      Edwin was listed as a farmer in Prairie Creek Township, 1850 Vigo Co., Indiana Census, page 296, dwelling #156.
