  v.   Kenneth Maurice Clark, born August 24, 1913 in west of Van Wert, Decatur Co., IA; married Freda Larie Gibson November 09, 1936 in Methodist Church, Leon, IA.
  Notes for Kenneth Maurice Clark:
Maurice grew up on a farm north of Weldon, Iowa. He remembers when he was 3 years old getting a toy horse and buggy with a banana in it for Christmas.
Maurice attended Osceola Junior College and worked part-time for Hy-Vee Food Stores. He also traveled around the country and helped with the harvests. After he and Freda were married in 1936, he worked for Hy-Vee again in the meat department. They opened the first Hy-Vee at Indianola on the north side of the square. Maurice was then transferred to Leon, IA, as a meat cutter. Their son, Condon was born at the Clarke Co. Hospital while they lived at Leon. In 1938, they moved to an 80 acre farm they bought near Osceola, IA. The twins, Rolan and Roger were born that same year at home. The roads were very muddy, and the doctor and nurse got their vehicle stuck. The nurse walked to the house while the doctor tried to get unstuck. The twins were born before the doctor got there, Rolan 1/2 hour before Roger.
When the boys were small, Maurice shoveled a train car load of coal to pay for some overalls they needed. He also built a special double high chair for the twins.
From this farm, they moved to May Wassom's place north of Osceola, and then south of Osceola to one of Olin Marquis' farms. In 1953, they moved east of Osceola about 7 miles to another of Olin's farms. While living there they purchased their first new car, a 1953 Oldsmobile. (This farm is now owned by Frank Pontier). They moved in 1955 to a farm west of Osceola by West Lake. This has been the homeplace until 1992, when they sold part of it and moved in town.
Maurice and Freda divorced in 1968, and he remarried to Doris in . They divorced in 1979. Maurice and Freda then remarried in the fall of 1980. They enjoyed spending part of the winter in Arizona, which they started doing in the 1960's, and continued until 1992. Maurice enjoys taking care of the garden and checking the crops at the portion of the farm they kept west of Osceola.

  Notes for Freda Larie Gibson:
Freda played the trombone in band, after Vera quit playing it. Freda was in 4-H. She graduated from Grand River High School in 1934. After she and Maurice were married, she worked as a bookkeeper at an implement store and garage. When the children were born, she stayed home and took care of them, and that was a job in itself with a 1 year old and two babies. It was almost like having triplets!!
After Maurice and Freda divorced, Freda moved to a mobile home in Osceola. She worked at the high school for one week, when the Four Corner Market had an opening for her. She worked there from 1967 until about 1969. Then she helped Hazel Hembry at the Osceola Country Club, and helped Ruble's sell mobile homes. In 1974, she started working at Rindy's Super Value and continued to work there until it closed in 1977. From 1977 until 1980, she worked at the Casey's store in Osceola. She opened this store up for them in 1977, as Beth Toland had to give notice at her other job and couldn't start her job as manager right away. She would come in and help Freda at nights.
Freda now enjoys crocheting afghans, and makes many beautiful ones for her family. She also has many flowers and enjoys bird-watching.
