John Ellsworth Clark and his wife, Sarah Ellen Shank with what is believed to be her father and step-mother, Jacob and Elizabeth Shank. They were married on August 27, 1865 in Wapello Co., IA. John had served in the Civil War and was captured on July 30, 1864, at Newman, Georgia and held captive at Andersonville Prison until September, 1864, when he was moved to the Florence, SC prison. He escaped from the Florence prison on February 21, 1865, and made it to Annapolis, MD. He was admitted to the Camden Hospital at Baltimore, MD, and afterwards to the Jarvis Convalesant Hospital from which he was honorably discharged on June 28, 1865. John was born in 1843 and died in 1929. Sarah was born in 1846 and died in 1886.
