Thomas ELLIOTT, my maternal 7th great grandfather, was our immigrant Elliott ancestor, or so we assume. We know that in 1694 he was a settler along the Pasquotank River in the far northeastern coastal region of colonial North Carolina. A few years later he moved the family to neighboring Perquimans County, where they are recorded as members of the Religious Society of Friends in Quaker Meeting records. Abraham ELLIOTT, my 6th great grandfather was born and lived his entire life in Perquimans County, NC. Jacob ELLIOTT, my 5th great grandfather, moved to Randolph County, NC in late 1770’s or early 1780's. In 1815 my 4th great grandfather Exum ELLIOTT followed the migration of many southern Quakers, who had rejected Southern slavery, by moving with his family from the 'Old North State' (NC) to Wayne County in the free Territory of Indiana. There in Indiana Great Great Great Grandfather Mark ELLIOTT married Mary HAWORTH, the daughter of a noted Anti-Slavery Friend who was active in the Underground Railroad. In October of 1873 Great Great Grandfather William Quincy ELLIOTT came to Reno County, Kansas and filed a homestead claim of 80 acres on the Arkansas River. The following year he brought his wife, thirteen children and mother out of Indiana to their new home in the frontier town of Peace, a place where buffalo stilled roamed on the plains of central Kansas. The family became charter members of Peace Monthly Meeting (Quaker) in that town which was later renamed Sterling. William Q. ELLIOTT prospered in Kansas, eventually building an estate of 3300 acres. My maternal grandfather's name is Mark Haworth ELLIOTT, Jr.

We know that the HARVEY family lived in Cumberland (today's Franklin) County, Pennsylvania in the early 18th century. Great Great Great Grandfather Henderson HARVEY migrated with his family from Pennsylvania to Union County, Indiana around 1807-08. Around 1850 Great Great Grandfather Samuel HARVEY moved to Preble County, Ohio bordering Union County, Indiana. Then in 1886 Great Grandfather Royal McConnell HARVEY and wife, Felina FLORA, migrated from Preble County, Ohio to Reno County, Kansas, where they farmed and prospered. They became active members of West Salem United Brethren Church near the town of Sterling. My maternal grandmother's name is Mary Elsie Sophronia HARVEY.

Great Great Grandfather, John DAVIS, an Ulster Scot, was born in County Londonderry, Ireland, probably in the parish of Tamlaght Finlagan. He left Ireland and came to Philadelphia sometime around 1815. He moved to western Pennsylvania sometime in the 1820's. In 1830 he purchased land in Beaver County and there he raised 3 sons & 3 daughters. He died in his 91st year in Lawrence Co., PA in 1875. My great grandfather John M. DAVIS was born in Pennsylvania in 1825. In the 1850's he migrated across the PA state line to Mahoning County, Ohio where he married Margaret Jane GUTHRIE in 1856. There he raised a family and in 1878 the family moved west to Reno County, Kansas, where they farmed south of the Arkansas River near the town of Nickerson. My grandfather, William Stewart Lowry DAVIS Sr., was a farmer on the homestead until his retirement.

Great Great Grandfather Gibbons PEARSON emigrated with his wife and children from County Donegal, Ireland to Pennsylvania in 1843. Great Grandfather, William Gibbons PEARSON, was just a babe when the family came to America. He fought on the side of the Union in the Civil War. Then he made the westward migration with his wife and family to Reno County, Kansas where they arrived on July 4, 1876 to begin a new life. The Pearson family were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. My paternal grandmother's name was Mary Eliza PEARSON.
