According to Scots-Irish naming tradition Isabella Hanson Davis, the first daughter, was named after her maternal grandmother, who was 'Isabella' Hanson. She may have been born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 1830 census records of Pittsburgh, PA point to a possibility that she and her parents were living there at that time.

The U.S. census of 1850 puts Isabella [Davis] Cook in Little Beaver Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. In her household were son James, age 2 years and daughter Anna age 4 months. Her husband, John Cook, was listed with his parents whose residence was next door to that of Isabella Cook.

The U.S. census of 1860 puts Isabella [Davis] Cook and family in Little Beaver Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.

The U.S. census of 1870 puts Isabella [Davis] Cook and family in Beaver Falls, Beaver County, Pennsylvania. The occupation of John Cook and son James W. Cook is Teamster. The couple were living next door to Rev. James Buck and wife Matilda [Davis] Buck.

The Little Beaver Reformed Presbyterian congregation minutes show that Mr. John Cook and Mrs. Isabella [Davis] Cook were dismissed to Beaver Falls RP congregation in 1875.
