Notes for George Bonser: Death Certificate: 1919/20583 George Bonser at the age of 18 sailed from London to Sydney on board the Clipper Ship "Light of the Age" (1287 ton) arriving in Australia on the 4th of October 1857. The Clipper had a fairly disastrous record with its trip the previous year, marred by a collision with the Clipper "Dallam Tower" in the Australian Bight and it's subsequent wrecking in 1868 of Points Lonsdale in a voyage from Liverpool to Melbourne. The immigration records for this vessel's trip show that his family was living at Woolwich, Kent before departing and at the time he could both read and write. The following was also listed "Embarked under the auspices of the Wellington Emigration Fund Committee. At the time of their marriage George leased 34 acres of land at Stoney Creek from Ebenezer Russell until 1876, 30 acres in 1877, 60 acres in 1878, 160 acres in 1880, 130 acres in 1881 and 1882 and then 130 acres from Esau Longbottom, in the 1900's to 1919 when he died he leased 1,727 acres from the Reddalls Family Estate where Mt Warrigal Barrack Heights townships now stand and also encompasses Shellharbor Plaza.
