  Notes for Eli Gillard:
Eli and his wife Ruth and Children Mary, James, Emily, Eli and Samuel traveled to Australia as assisted immigrants on the ship "Sultana" on the 19th May 1855. Their other Son Thomas (aged 19) arrived on the 29th September 1854 as an assisted immigrant possibly to pre-arrange things for the family and to ensure Australia was the place to settle.

Shipping Records show Eli (aged 35yrs) should read 45yrs, with his wife Ruth (34yrs), should read 42yrs, along with his children
Mary Ann (16yrs) Domestic Servant, James (14yrs) , Emily (12yrs) , Eli (10yrs) & Samuel (7yrs) , arrived in Australia as "Assisted Immigrants" from Yeovilton, England on the ship "Sultana" 19 May 1855.

Their son Thomas Gaylard (19yrs) Farm Labourer had arrived earlier in the colony on 29 September 1854 on "The Lady Ann" as an Assisted Immigrant.

The Gillard family settled on the South Coast land, which was held in the Parish of Tanja, County of Dampier, land district of Bega, NSW by Eli, Thomas Henry and Frederick Harman Gillard.

  Notes for Thomas Gillard:
The Gillard's were originally booked to passage on the Clipper "Dunbar" but they were late and and missed the ship and travelled on the Zemindar instead. The "Dunbar" was wrecked on South Head (entrance to Sydney Harbour) on the 20th August 1857 in a storm. The immigration records for the family's arrival spells the family name as "Gaylard". It also lists all members of the family are Church of England and whilst Thomas, Elizabeth, Samuel and Eliza can read, no members of the family can write. Also contained the following information:
