Eli & Phoebe Sanders Brown (14 KB) These are some of my mother's great-grandparents. My first knowledge of the Browns is in southern Indiana. (The Sanders can be traced to the Roanoake area of Virginia.) They moved to Oklahoma in the latter part of the 1800's. Phoebe is thought to be part Cherokee. (Photo courtesy of Debbie Davenport) George Buchanan & Lydia Todd Tefertiller Family (161 KB) George's line is of German or "Black Dutch" stock, coming from Alsace in the 1600's. The family made their way from Pennsylvania down the East Coast and into Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri and elsewhere. Originally 'Tiefenthaler,' the name means "from a deep valley" (Bavaria?). Lydia's people settled in Georgia, Indiana, etc., but especially in Tennessee. George (b. 1856, Perry Co., Illinois) & Lydia, (b. 1857, Murfreesboro, Rutherford Co., Tennessee) lived their adult lives in Missouri and Oklahoma.
