He died Sunday night at Irving Community Hospital. He was 60. Mathis published four books, From A High Place, Dark Streaks In Empty Places, Natural Prey and Little Man Blues. The first three featured stories of private eye Dan Roman. Mathis moved to the Dallas area in 1962. He was a buyer at Bell Helicopter for 13 years until his retirement in 1975. He then wrote mystery books in his home. Mathis is survived by his wife, Bonnie Mathis of Euless; a daughter, Janet Davis of Hurst; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Worsdorfer of Irving; and two grandsons.
