Notes for John Patrick Davis: =============================================================================== Two Letters dated Nov 28, 1923 and Dec 7, 1923 from John P. Davis to Alabama Pension Commission in Montgomery Alabama and JR Waldman, Chief Clerk Pension Divison repectively.
In these he expliains the details of his enlistment and service which is shown in the following documents. The letter dated Nove 28, 1923 was on hotel notepaper (hense a reference he makes later in the affidavid that he was a border. The Hotel Twickenham " The Pride of Huntsville" paper. In it he expains " I was in the las campaign with Jefferson Davis and parolled at Washington Ga and Drew $26 in Gold and Silver" I have 2 scars on My Body Mad By the war".

My dear Judge McCall;-
Replying to your inquiry oof several days ago with reference to the Co.K, 4th, Tennessee Calvary, John O. Hickman, Chairman Board of Pension Examiners, reported that: "John P. Davis' Co.K, Starnes' 4th, Tennessee Calvary was paroled at Washington, Georgia on May 9, 1865. Tennessee had two 4th, Regiments of Cavalry - - - one commanded by Col. Baxter Smith, the other commanded by Col. James W. Starnes. However, it was commanded by Col. W.S. McLamore when it surrendered. This regiment was with the command escorting President Davis at the time he was caputred".
