* THE DAWSON FAMILY HOME PAGE*

Updated September 5, 2000

I am researching the Dawson family of Chester County, Pennsylvania. Thomas Dawson born about 1690, andhis wife Mary born about 1695, settled in West Caln Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Thomas and Mary were of English ancestry and were probablyborn and married in England. When they arrived in Philadelphia, they purchased 100 acres of land in 1713 in Edgemont about 15 miles out of Philadelphia in Chester County. They retained this land but later moved a short distance to West Caln Township where they lived and made their permanent home, They brought with them brass candle sticks, mirrors, valuable decorative pieces, ladles, high quality wooden chests, and other household articles indicating, at that time, the affluence of the neighborhood from which they came. Thomas Dawson was a founding member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Pequea, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania He was the eighth of fifteen men who signed the Declaration of Purposes for the church in 1729. Thomas and Mary had seven children. Abraham, b. ca. 1716 Thomas, Jr.. b. ca. 1718 Isaac, .b. 1720 Richard, b. ca. 1721 Ann, b. ca. 1722 ; m Berwick Fortunata, b. ca. 1724; unmarried David, b. ca 1726 Thomas Dawson died July 11, 1768, age 77 years, at his home, he was buried in the family cemetery, West Caln, Chester County, Pennsylvania. His wife, Mary , died 1769, and was buried beside him. I am also researching the Cherry family of Frederick County, Virginia. Thomas Cherry died in 1760. His daughter Mary married Isaac Dawson about 1741. At a court held for Frederick County, Virginia the 5th day of February 1760, Thomas Cherry's will was presented to court by William Cherry and Isaac Dawson, two of the Executors named. In his will Thomas Cherry referred to Isaac Dawson as "my beloved son-in-law". Any additional information on any of these lines would be greatly appreciated.
