Was my Great-grandmother really in the Petersen House on the night Lincoln was shot? Who gets to be buried in the US Congressional Cemetery? Many more.

Family Photos

  • The Mary Matilda Hart Day Book (Detail) (857 KB)
This detail is the last page in the book and is Mary's collection of hair samples of her relatives. Among these are samples from the LOWRY family shown in Mary's Lowry Family Sampler of 1816 included on this Page.
  • Martha Ann Ware and Hamilton Jonas Keen (582 KB)
Our California Pioneers met and married in Oroville, Butte County, California and subsequently homesteaded in Acampo, Liberty Township, San Joaquin County, California. H. J. arrived in San Francisco in 1849 by whaler around the Horn from Boston. Martha was a survivor of a disatrous Overland Trail trek from St. Louis to Butte County about 1850. She was originally from Amherst County, Virginia.
  • Robert Lowry Moore, 1811-1854 (193 KB)
One of our Georgia emigrants. Born in Delaware and raised in Washington DC, the son of James Moore of County Tyrone, North of Ireland and Margaret Lowry, Robert along with brothers William and Ned, chose to take advantage of land lottery acreage. Robert settled in Randolph County, Georgia. He married twice, first one Askew sister (Anne) and then her younger sister Mary Davis Askew, who between them produced seven children. The surviving five were orphaned by Robert's death and removed to Washington DC.
  • "Maggie" (Margaret Lowry) Moore & A. P. Bellows (211 KB)
Our "Pullman Pioneers." Two stories remark this couple's meeting & marriage. At the time Maggie was enrolled in Boston Girl's School. One story has them meeting in Vermont where Maggie accompanied a school chum during Spring Break, and the other a courtship in Washington DC where Albert was stationed during the Civil War. Both are probably true. They married and resided in Vermont until 1890 when they were invited to Acampo, California by relatives
  • Mary Anna Bellows & Walter Hamilton Keen (314 KB)
Ranching neighbors met and married in the San Joaquin Valley. Mary Anna, the daughter of Maggie MOORE & A. P. BELLOWS and Walter, the son of H. J. KEEN & Martha WARE joined these lines together.
  • The Family of Julius C. Rudolph (466 KB)
Our German Immigrant Family arrived from Hohenwalde, Landsberg/Warthe, Brandenburg PRUSSIA in 1885 and settled in Dubuque, Iowa. The young lady on the far left is Kathryn Louise Rudolph who grew up to marry Martin Zuber, son of our Bohemian Immigrants John Zuber & Maria Anna Herrmann who were both born in small towns just West of Pilsen.
  • The Family of Martin Zuber & Kathryn Rudolph (392 KB)
Martin and Kathryn met and married in Dubuque, Iowa, later moving on to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Martin joined his brother John in working for the Singer Sewing Machine Company. This move led to a transfer to the Far East, where Singer was busy developing mechanized needle trades in Korea, Japan, China and Manchuria. Children Martin Edward and Estelle Marie "grew up" in Seoul, Korea. This photo was taken at a later residence in Mukden, Manchuria (now Chenyang, China)
  • John Zuber & His Grandchildren (218 KB)
Bohemian Immigrants John Zuber and Maria Anna Hermann immigrated from the Pilsen District in Bohemia, west of Prague to Dubuque, Iowa in the late 19th Century. Unfortunately a fire destroyed most of the Zuber family photos in John's possession and we have no photo of Maria Herrmann or any family group photo. This portrait of John Zuber with Martin Edward and Estelle, the children of his son Martin was taken on his visit to Martin and Kathryn's home in Milwaukee prior to their emigration to Korea.
  • The Marriage of Martin E. Zuber & Ila Lowry Keen (680 KB)
Martin & Ila met and courted while at the University of California, Berkeley. They were married at the home of Martin's parents in Mukden, Manchuria. This photo represents the melding of the Keen/Bellows and Rudolph/Zuber lines.
  • The Lowry Family Sampler (223 KB)
This childhood sewing project was completed by Mary Matilda Hart in 1816 at age 10. Her mother was one of the Lowry daughters shown (Jane? Elizabeth?, Abigail?). Some yarn is faded making the sampler hard to read and these are the header, the footer and the female names. It is assumed that these were red or reddish pink. Header: "John and Elizabeth Lowry. The Names and Ages of their Children." Footer: Signature reading "Mary M Hart born May 12 1806." Line 5: "Jane Lowry was born Sep 27 1773." Line 6:"Elizabeth Lowry was born Jan i 1776." Line 7: "Margaret Lowry was born Oct 23 1778."Line 9: "Abigail Lowry was born Aaril 8 1783." Daughter Margaret Lowry married James Moore of County Tyrone, Ir and Washington DC. These are the progenitors of our Lowry/Moore/Bellows lines.
