I have been researching my family history for several years and have identified the Dean and James families to late 1700's. At about that time they moved from Maryland to Missouri. I would like to hear from anyone who has information about them from Maryland and where they came from before that.
My Dolson ancestors have been traced back to 1640's when they first arrived on this continent. Two Dolson ancestors were soldiers in the Revolutionary War and one, Stephen Dolson, my great, great grandfather, was in the War of 1812. He lived in New York at the time and later went to Missouri. About 1845 he relocated to Iowa with his wife, Elizabeth James and 4 children. Stephen had 3 wives in his lifetime and 19 children.
The Perry County (Missouri) Historical Society has been a great help in providing information about my family as far back as early 1800's in that area.
In their quarterly publication, Vol. 15, Number 1, 1997, they have printed the first installment of over 40 letters written by my great grandfather, George Washington Dean, to his wife, Harriet Ann Dolson, while he was a Union soldier in the Civil War. George was killed in battle at Black River Bridge, MS. in May 1863.
I would be pleased to share my information.
