He married (1) ELIZABETH JAMES March 30, 1818 in Florissant, MO, daughter of JOSEPH JAMES and ELIZABETH HOSTEN. He married (2) MARIAH HUTCHINS July 28, 1836 in Perryville, MO. He married (3) LUCINDA TAYLOR April 23, 1838 in Perryville, Perry county, Mo., daughter of WILLIAM TAYLOR and ANNA CAMBERIN?.

Notes for STEPHEN DOLSON:
Enlisted U.S. Army--October 20, 1813--in Lancaster, PA

U.S. Army Military Records indicate he was 6' 2", eyes-blue, hair-fair, complexion light, occupation-distiller or shoemaker.

Received a bonus of land for services in war of 1812, believed to have been in Missouri.

Lived near Georgetown, Dubuque county, Iowa for 18 years.
Lived at Colesburg, Iowa at time of his death on August 11, 1876.

In letter to his wife, Harriet, living in North Buena Vista, Iowa, dated February 14, 1863, George Dean, Stephen's son-in-law, wrote "Tell father Dolson to write to me and don't be so saving of his precious ink".

Stephen's first wife, Elizabeth James, died when she was 35 years old. His second wife, Mariah Hutchins, died 2 days after their son Stephen James was born. He married his third wife, Lucinda Taylor at age 45 and Lucinda was 18. Stephen and Lucinda had 4 children before leaving Perryville about1845.

Notes for LUCINDA TAYLOR:
Lucinda Taylor Tucker was a widow with one child, Joseph. Marriage to Stephen Dolson recorded June 4, 1838 by J. P. Chasid, Priest of St. Mary's church. Joseph is often mistaken for Stephen Dolson's son.

Lucretia Taylor, sister of Lucinda, married John A. Dolson

Lucinda Dolson filed a "War of 1812 Claim of Widow For Service Pension" in Delaware county, Iowa on May 28, 1878, declaring she was the widow of Stephen Dolson, a private in the army serving in the war of 1812 under Captain Henshaw.
She states in this claim that she married Stephen Dolson at Perryville , County of Perry, MO "on the (I think) 23d day of April, A.D. 1840" by a "minister of the gospel".

This claim states that " Stephen Dolson had been married twice before he married me. First to Elizabeth James who died about 1834 then to Mariah Hutchins who died about 1836." At that time she was living in Colesburg, Iowa and stated her age as 58.

  Notes for JOHN AUSTIN DOLSON:
John Dolson was a Lieutenant in Union Army; he certified the casualty sheet of company G, 21st regiment, Iowa Volunteers 5/18/1863 which listed the death of his brother-in-law, George Washington Dean.

John A. Dolson took over command from Capt. Willard Benton when Benton was killed.

  Notes for CHARLES LOUIS DOLSON:
In letter dated Nov 12, 1862 to his wife Harriet Ann Dolson, George W. Dean mentions his gratitude that Charles Dolson sent her apples. Harriet lived in N. Buena Vista, Iowa at the time and was without money to buy food. He also mentioned that William Dolson loaned her money which he promised to repay when he got home.
