Notes for GIVITEE DOLSON:
Jan Gevitson Van Dolson and his son-in-law, Jan Kierson, got a lease of the "Great MaizeLand", an Indian clearing not far from Fort Washington, on March 30, 1686. These lands were laid out and allotted in 1691 and on July 2, 1694 Kierson bought for 100 guilders in money lots nos. 16 and 18 from Thomas Tourner as purchased from Holmes and Waldron - Drawers.
In March, 1691 Kierson obtained the signature of every inhabitant of the town to a paper granting him a half of margin of the land from the common woods, that Samuel Waldron had drawn out of the common woods of which half margin of land Kierson may build upon, there on setting a house, barn and garden. For which he promised to let lie a margin of the NE hook of aforesaid lot, leaving a suitable road or Kingsway, between his house and the lot of Samuel Waldron.
Kierson built his house and on March 7, 1700 the town officers gave him a deed. Here Kierson and his wife, Gevitee Dolson lived. This was the first settlement on the now well known Jumel Homestead and believed to be the first spot permanently occupied on these heights.
