Murray County, GA records show that L. C. Stroud and Madison Bailey were married APril 24, 1859.These same records show that
John M. Dean and Caroline Bailey were married November 27, 1876.
This story is told by the John Dean Family of Oklahoma as relayed in 1990.
John Marion Dean who had 11 children. He and His second wife, Louisa Carolina Stroud Bailey, was living in the Talking Rock, Ga aera and was taking a load of cotton to the gin one day. When night fell, Louisa, tried to find him but to no avail.John had sold the load of cotton and vanished.
Needless to say Louisa Carolina was not a happy woman when she found out that John Marion had skipped the country leaving her with 11 children to care for.The three from John's first marriage to Harriett Elizabeth Chadwick Dean, (James Washington Dean, Thomas Franklin Dean, and William H. Dean), plus the four boys from Louisa's first marriage to Madison George Bailey (FrakingBailey, S. Berton Bailey, Steven Leander Bailey and Thomas Lee Bailey). The remaining four were from this marriage ( Nancy Lemar Dean, Rosa Dean, John Walter Dean, and James Ira Dean).
John's three boys from the first marriage to Harriett moved in with their grandfather, Thomas Dean.
Around 1899, Louisa Carolina took the remaining family members and moved to Waco, Texas. At this point it is believed that three of the Bailey boys obtained a farm and put in crops then settled down to make a life for themselves. One of the Bailey boys (Thomas Lee Bailey) , his mother and the remaining children came to the Chicksaw Indian Territory in search of free land.
The family obtained land in what later became Caddo County, OKLA and started farms and families and were some of the early pioneers.Thomas Lee Bailey owned the horse barn in Cement and he had access to alot of information from people on the move.It is believed that he found out where John Marion Dean was and passed this information to Nancy Lemar (Dean) Bailey, Louisa Carolina oldest daughter.
It seems that John Marion Dean landing in Grimes Community just south of Cheyenne, OK were he had homstedded 160 acres.Nancy Lemar must have gone to his farm and confronted him and told him that Louisa carolina has passed on and was buried in Cement Cemetery, in Cement, OK.The story goes that John visited his children in the Cement area a number of times and made at least one trip back to GA to see his other three boys. The 160 acres that John Marion Dean Homesteded is still in the family at the time of this story.
John was born in SC.He appeared in the census in 1850 in Western Division Pickens County, SC.He appeared in 1860 census in Pickens County, GA. See census of Father.
