Notes for Ephriam Essex: Roster of Ohio Solders Company D volume 5 page 397 Entered Service October 9, 1861 at the age of nineteen Served 3 years Mustered out October 9 1864 on expiration of service Sixty-Third Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry Three Years Service This regiment was organized by the consolidation of two battalions, known as the Twenty-second and Sixty-third Regiments Ohio Volunteer Infrantry, at Columbus, Marietta and Chillicothe, Ohio, from August 1861, to February, 1862, to serve three years. On the expiration of its term of service the original members (except veterans) were mustered out, and the organization, composed of veterans and recruits, retained in service until July 8, 1865, when it was mustered out in accordance with orders from the War Department. The official list of battles, in which this Regiment bore an honorable part, is not yet published by the War Department, but the following list has been compiled, after careful research, during the preparation of this work: New Madrid, MO March 3-13, 1862 Island NO, IO, TENN April 8, 1862 Corinth, MISS (Siege of) April 30,1862 Iuka, MISS September 19,1862 Corinth, MISS October 4, 1862 Resaca, GA May 13-16, 1864 Dallas, GA May 25 to June 4, 1864 Kennesaw Mountine, GA June 9-30, 1864 Decatur, GA July 22, 1864 Atlanta, GA July 28 to September 2, 1864 Jonesboro, GA Sseptember 1-2, 1864 Savannah, GA (Siege of) December 10-21, 1864 Procotaligo, S.C.
