John Albert Dean and Kate Iane Brewster:Information about Alexander Hutcheson
Alexander Hutcheson (b. 14 Oct 1839, d. 1915)
Notes for Alexander Hutcheson:
Purchased the old homestead from his father. He has a small mine supplying coal locally. He kept 8-10 cows. Any surplus milk was delivered locally each day in pails by Walter Grant. Deliveries being made both morning and night.
Reports say that Alexander was a hard working man, a good provider and damned strict with his girls. He was very moody - going for weeks without speaking to his wife Jane.
It is handed down that Alexander wanted to purchase more land on Maple Hill, Blossburgh, PA so he had hidden 1200.00 dollars in the barn for the purchase.Somehow by rats or otherwise the money was moved. Jane found it. This being during one of their non - speaking sessions and neither one said anything about it.
In time they must have overcame their differences because he (Alexander) did purchase the land later on Maple Hill of which is still in the family.
It is also said that Alexander and W. B. Wilson first Secretary of Labor were great friends.
The Hutcheson's were the first contributors in the Wilson's campaign for the labor class.
To carry on his work he employed twoteamsters to deliver coal and we do not know how many miners he employed.
Alexander was less than average stature.
He always wore a beard.
