  The photo was taken by Olga Deckert Mantei, Adolph's daughter, at the farm of Rudolph, which was next door to Adolph's farm. Back row (left to right): Laura, Erna, Adolph (Rudolph's brother), Bertha (Adolph's wife) holding Madeline, Mrs. Vantie (their midwife), Hulda (Rudolph's wife), Rudolph (Adolph's brother) Front row: Carl, Ernie, Paula, Elsie, and Art. Laura, Erna, Madeline, Carl, and Paula are Adolph and Bertha's children. Ernie, Elsie, and Art are Rudolph and Hulda's children. Two of Adolph and Bertha's daughters, Anne and Alvina, were at their home. Their son Harold had not been born yet. Rudolph and Hulda had other children: Rudolph died shortly after birth; Relma, Helen, Herman, and Rodney were not born yet. Mrs. Vantie belonged to a rich nearby farm family but said she had to midwife to save money for her own burial because her family was so stingy. Paula had torn a hole in the knee of her stockings while playing that afternoon so she pulled her knickers down to cover it.
