Welcome to our Home Page!

We have been researching and discovering our ancestry since the ealy 1980's. We currently have more than 3200 individuals in our Family Tree Maker (version 8.0) database and it continues to grow as new leads are discovered.

Gail's ancestry is predominantly German. We have traced the SCHLINKERT surname back to Soest, Westfalen, Germany, and the early 1600's. Gail's great grandfather, JOHN JOSEPH SCHLINKERT, came to St. Clair, Michigan, in 1856. He came to the USA with two cousins, and we have been able to establish ties to nearly all the "Schlinkerts" in the USA. Other German surnames in Gail's ancestry are: SCHULTE, WULF, LUECK, WURM, and HOFFMEYER (all from Germany). Additional surnames we are researching are: KING (from Withernwick, Yorkshire, England) and ARMSTRONG (Scotland).

John's ancestry is a mixture and only the the German and Volga-German are known. Although the DECATOR surname has been found in the St. Clair County, Michigan, area since 1841, we have not been able to ascertain the origin of the name but suspect it is Dutch. Other surnames of interest are: BARKER (England) and FEHMER (Germany, emigrated in 1876 to USA.) The Volga-German surnames include: GORTE, FISCHER, and JURK, all from Reinwald, Russia, who came to the USA in the early 1900's.

We are always happy to share our information and research, and discuss discoveries and missing links. Thanks for looking at our page. (Updated 30 April 2009).
